Oof. That exchange, so light, warm but goddamn heavy. Your subtext is genius Deirdre!

To keep it simple, even though it isn't even close... I loved this - I kept expecting 'you' somewhere but you weren't and this short fiction, which I didn't expect, is such a brilliant Snap Deirdre! 🙌🏽

It's funny, I always think most of my writing is fiction, only because a lot of it is shaped or edited, but this time it was more clear that it wasn't me, ha! Thanks for reading Troy. I'm always happy when you read my stuff.

Will there’s no way to say thank you that matches that generosity except to say it twice! Thank you thank you.

Totally pulled me in, right from the first words. What is said. And, just as importantly (always), what isn't said. And how the mind slips from one thing to another... and how tiny seemingly inconsequential details of the 'outside world' occasionally intrude upon, and interact with, the internal stream.

Short version of the above: I loved this.

And... whether or not you ever choose to expand it into... well, into more - it's still and nonetheless quite beautiful (and compelling - and affecting - and so many other things) just as it is.

How do you do this? It’s some kind of magic to weave this all together!❤️

I red this twice to let the mystery sink in. Do you know Raymond Carver’s poem “What the Doctor Said,” about receiving his diagnosis of lung cancer? Your story reminds me of it.

This feels like a great first chapter of a novel. Could it be?

Thanks Dan. I don’t know! Possibly the last chapter? I started it a long time ago and it was something else but when I went back in recently, this is what happened.

I feel this. Wrote a poem called Waiting Room a few years ago. The guy in the photo looks like a great dancer.
